Genesis - Watch Out!

Last night as I was reading Genesis - honestly not my favorite book in the Bible, I came away with a great word. In Genesis 3:4 After the serpent has offered the fruit to Eve, he says,

"You wont die!...God knows that your eyes will be opened when you eat it. You will become just like God, knowing everything, both god and evil." (NLT)

What really hit home as I read this is that the devil (the serpent) told Eve half the truth and then mixed it with half a lie. Watered it down if you will. You see, Eve's eyes WOULD be opened once she ate it. And, of course, then she would NOT become just like God.

This is a simple verse on the surface. Ive read it many times and we all know the story. Heck, even most non-believers know the story. But, the power in it was that it really does a great job at spelling out one of the devils greatest and most frequently used tricks - or tools. Half truths: wich are LIES. Straight up. I think often times we get sucked into things and make bad decisions based on some type of thought that contains truth, but in the end is far from it. Tricky. This is a trick from the enemy. The devil is a lie!

Be careful, and you use descernment as you walk through life. I heard Bishop T.D. Jakes say that Herresey starts out with truth - is based on a certain truth - that then is then taken to one extreme, completely thrown off balance - becoming untrue.

Its like when someone offers a sceptical kid some drugs,

"This will make you feel good! It wont hurt you."

The reality is, the drug more than likely WILL make you feel good - for a short while. And then it most definetly will hurt you, or kill you!

Todd G
